Little Boy Blue

It's here.  He is really excited and he thinks he is a natural!  I'm not really in agreement with that.  He is very sensitive about his playing abilities though.  We are going to have to get him a music stand so that he can stop using the end table next to my recliner.  He perches his music against the lamp and stands facing me blowing his horn right at me while I am watching tv trying to keep a straight face...which is almost impossible.  At the first sign of a smile cracking on my face he quits, sits, and pouts.  I try my best but the whole situation is comical.  The Boy, standing there blasting his first attempts at notes on his horn at me while I try to watch tv without looking at him or showing any facial expressions what-so-ever.  At least I could hear his notes getting stronger by the time he was finished...there is hope!

The Tooth Fairy Sucks!

A couple of weeks ago Jayke finally pulled his tooth that had been barely hanging there for days.  He was at Bob's and didn't get home until late so we just put the baggie that had the tooth in it on the counter.  I was hoping he wouldn't put it under his pillow because I didn't have any cash. I figured since he went to bed he wouldn't remember it and I could get some ones the next day.

Weeks have gone by and that tooth has just sat there so tonight I said, "Hey Jayke, why don't you put your tooth under your pillow tonight so you can get some money for Colorado?"  He said okay and went to get it.  I later asked him if he put it under the pillow in the baggie.  (I need to know ahead of time what I'm looking for so as not to wake him...I don't know if he fully believes still or not and I'm trying to keep it going as long as possible. The kid has only lost 7 teeth.)  He replied, "No, I took it out of the baggie because when I put it under there the other day... in the baggie... she never came!"

blink. blink.

"You put your tooth under your pillow before now???"

"Yea, I put it under there and nothing happened so I put it back on the counter."

This Tooth Fairy sucks!  He never told me he put it under his pillow and I check every day to see that it's still on the counter.  When did he do this?  WHY didn't he tell me he was putting it under his pillow?  The Fairy needs some warning!  I felt so bad I put a couple extra dollars under there tonight when I retrieved it.  Now, as I write this, I'm wondering two things...one...did he figure it out that it's me... since he didn't tell me and the Fairy didn't come?  Two...has he figured out a way to guilt his mother (aka The Tooth Fairy) into giving him more money?  He may just be a genius...

Why do They Hate Him So?

Got a weird text from Mom this afternoon that I wasn't able to decipher at first.  It said something about Jayke and a wasp but her texting skills leave a lot to be desired.  Much of the time it's like trying to figure out the Da Vinci code so I finally gave up and just called Jayke.  He was crying and told me he had been stung twice by a wasp.  I immediately went into my calming, "it's no big deal, it will only hurt for a short time, you've been stung before" speech (not sure if it is calming him or me...but I do it anyway).  I get him all settled down and Mom walks in the door.  Game over, or I should say, game on.  The crying and theatrics begin all over and are ramped up to "GRANDMA" level.  I hang up.  I can't deal with that mess especially while at work.

I decided to check the situation out about 45 minutes later and call Mom this time.  She answers sounding all exasperated (I would imagine she is the way she lets him carry on) and tells me that they have tried putting everything they could think of on the stings and NOW he is soaking in the bathtub.  (CRICKETS)  Um...why on earth does a bee sting on the THUMB require a full body soak in the bathtub???  She said it was to calm him.  I think sometimes she gets confused on if we are raising a boy or a weenie here.  I also think the bathtub idea was to get him away from her so that she could calm herself!  Again, I'm at work, I can't listen to this.  I hang up.

I leave from work wondering what kind of dramatics I'm going to be walking into when I get home.  Luckily, mom was gone.  That was the first good news (just because he tends to be more of a drama queen around her), the second good news was that he was NOT crying, however, as soon as he saw me that chin started to quiver.  I immediately told him he was fine and walked into the other room.  I refuse to baby him and allow him to go into his theatrics a second time.  Sure enough, about 15 minutes after I get home he is going back out to play basketball again.

A short time after Jayke is outside Mom sends me yet another of her creative texts to ask if he is okay.  Just as I write her back telling her he is fine, he runs in the door holding his forehead and crying.  ANOTHER wasp sting!!  What on earth is this child doing to these angry wasps?  Why do they hate him so? Mom didn't even believe me when I told her he'd been stung again.  I don't blame her.   Jeff was here and headed outside to check things out.  He had a thought that maybe they had a nest in his basketball goal and the ball bouncing off the backboard was ticking them off.  They fly out and see Jayke bouncing a ball, making noise, and torpedo his head!
We didn't see anything but just to be on the safe side we go buy some spray and soak the inside of the pole by spraying it in the holes on the sides.  We didn't have anymore problems the rest of the evening.  I think the feisty little buggers were just laying low though because they got him again the next day.  This time, Oma, took no chances and put duct tape over every hole on that pole!

Two days and four stings later...the court is open again.

The Life and Death of Carl...

....the carrot.  My coworker made this for me because I didn't want to partake in her healthy snack.  I'm sure she thought I would throw little Carl the Carrot away but I had other things in mind.  I documented his demise daily and posted the pictures on the wall of my cube.

As you can see it didn't take Carl long to wither away.  Our big boss, the president of Mid-West Homes for pets was intrigued by my little carrot dude, (or maybe disgusted by his employees' blatant lack of productivity) so we made him one too!!

Carrie the Carrot who was equally as beautiful as Carl in the beginning, even more so with her long flowing pink hair and nice green skirt, soon met the same demise.  I decided to let Carrie die with her dignity and didn't photograph her in her advanced state of decay.  God rest their little carrot souls!!

O.o

The Elf...Just Hanging Around...And Then!!

Frisbee has been pretty good this year.  Just hanging around and hiding here and there...

He did fool Jayke by hiding in the door of the fridge one day...

Jayke asked me the other day if I remembered all of the messes Frisbee made last year.  I told him I remembered and maybe he would end up doing some of that stuff this year too.  So far the elf has been rather dull.  I think he has gotten lazy...or maybe he has another full time job somewhere that causes him to not be as creative as he was last year.  I seem to recall him telling me that he was unemployed last Christmas so he had plenty of time on his hands to make mischief all night.  I'm sure he has heard that he hasn't been near as fun as he was last year.

Well, I think he must have decided to step it up a notch...

This year he has taken naughty to a whole new level!!  Poor unsuspecting Bobby sound asleep and that rotten little elf shaved a stripe right across his head!  I sent Jayke in to wake Bobby up and the look of horror on his face was priceless.  He was hesitant to wake him.  He probably thought Bobby was going to dismember his sweet little elf.  He shook him gently and said, "Wake up, my elf shaved your head."  Then he took a step back and just looked at him.  Bobby was in disbelief at first.  He felt the top of his head and there was still hair there so he didn't believe him.  Jayke assured him that there was in fact a stripe shaved on his head.  Bobby finally looked in the mirror and absolutely couldn't believe how rotten that elf had been.  Jayke laughed hysterically!

Rotten elf...just look at that face!

The Tooth Saga

Never in my life have I seen a kid more afraid to pull a tooth!  Jayke is almost 9 years old and has only lost 5 teeth.  I was beginning to think this crooked thing was never going to come out!  His front tooth was loose for so long that it had begun to stick straight out.  It was not a good look.  Everyone offered to pull it for him.  I begged and bribed him, but he wouldn't do it.  Finally, Bobby took a shot at it and tied a piece of floss to it.  He tied it so tight that the only way to get it off was to pull the tooth.  We spent hours that night trying to convince him to get it out.  There was crying, begging, moaning, and yelling.  Jayke was pretty upset too!

Bobby sat holding the phone so that Jayke could see himself and try to work the tooth out.  He sat there for an hour.  Still the tooth remained.  I finally had had it and had to cut the string down to the tooth and sent him to bed.

Two days later I was convinced we were going to have to have the dentist pull it for him.  I didn't want the other tooth behind it to come in crooked because of this dangling little gem.  Just when I was about to give up and make an appointment he comes running into the bedroom.  His tooth had finally fallen out.  Knocked out by a stubborn Cheezit.  We were all very excited.  I immediately took his picture with his toothless smile.

After all that work, all those tears, and all that stress he didn't even bother to leave it for the tooth fairy.  It was 6 days later when I finally put the tooth in his room when he went to bed.  He didn't even remember it.  I guess maybe he has outgrown the toothfairy already...before she even had to break her bank!

Zombie Killer!!

Another Halloween...another costume.  I will say that I think we did an outstanding job this year.  I had help from my former martial arts expert, Bobby.  He took many years of martial arts when he was younger so he knew how to add some finishing touches that I wouldn't have thought of.

The thing that cracks me up about this is the snow boots!  They actually worked really well though.  They looked pretty good and they kept his feet warm and dry on what turned out to be a cold Halloween night!

Sneaky Ninja!!

Here the Ninja is getting ready to off a zombie who is on the loose!

Trick-or-treating with Mason again this year.  I think it is now a tradition, although I don't know about this next character...

WHO IS THAT HUMAN BANANA???

LOL~  None other than Bobby wearing Matthew's Morph suit.  I don't know how Angi and Ryan talked him into it but they did.  Matt had basketball practice and wouldn't be able to go trick-or-treating so they thought it would be an outstanding idea for Bobby to wear Matt's costume and go as if he were Matt, collecting candy for him.  I didn't think he was going to do it.  I had taken the boys on ahead to hit some houses while they tried to unsuccesfully convince him.  Next thing I know Jayke, Mason, and I are on a road all by ourselves when a man in a yellow suit and some guy made up like a zombie come running around the corner.  They talked him into it...and Bob joined him in Zombie makeup.  I almost peed myself when I saw them!  Of course there were many jokes such as Bob calling him Bobby, the Human Condom.

It didn't last very long because apparently you sweat a lot in a morph suit.  I think he hit about 5 houses.  He was very proud of the fact that he got candy at those 5 houses though!  I think this made my night!

Bye Bye Buddy

It's like Animal Planet around here!  I receive pictures of spiders and bugs every day while at work.  Bobby loves his new phone and the camera that it has.  He has become friends with an Orb Weaver spider who has taken up residence in the front flower bed.  He takes pictures of her all the time.  As you can see...

Unfortunately, the other day tragedy struck...

THIS...came along and ate the poor little orb weaver.  Here she is eating a bee that was stuck in the spiders web...after she ate Miss Spider.  I think Bobby is really bummed about his little buddy being Mantis Munch. No more pics of his little spider.  We have ALL seen the pictures and heard the story so I thought I'd share it here too.  LOL

More Pimping of the Dog

Winter is coming...so Zoey needed a hoodie.  She also got a pink striped sweater, which I didn't get a picture of yet.  Putting this thing on her is just like dressing a child.  She was very cooperative though.  I think she has worn clothes before!  This is a little snug so I hope it doesn't shrink!  I've already taken it back and exchanged it once.  Crazy that I'm now having to exchange dog clothes now too.  SMH.  (that's shaking my head for those...mom...that don't know text speak)

I Pimped the Dog

Yep...something I said I would NEVER do...I have done.  I pimped my dog.  She has a new pink vest which is her harness that attaches to the leash when she goes out.  Little dogs have delicate throats/necks so I don't want her pulling on her collar around her neck with her leash or tie out.  I did get her a matching pink polka dot collar to go with the pink vest and a pink barrette for her hair.  She has some pink bows too but they don't stay in her hair very well so I put it on her collar instead.  Normally she just wears the collar and vest so she isn't very frilly...I like to refer to her as SPORTY YORKIE rather than a princess.  She doesn't act like a princess that is for sure!  She has little dog syndrome and thinks she has to bully all the other animals...including the neighbor dog.  She tries to attach him through the fence.  Our animals have been really tolerant of her but Simon reached his limit yesterday and grabbed a hold of her and shook her!  We now have to keep a close eye on that because he could kill her.  That is all I need is a dead Yorkie laying in the middle of the floor and an 8 year old standing there screaming.  High maintenance little dogs..now I know why I have always said I prefer BIG dogs!  I did like shopping for her gear though.

Thought I Was Kid Free

....for a week!  Turns out...I still have a kid with me.  Went to Meijer to buy reading glasses because he is going blind due to his advanced age and next thing I know I find this...

....and this...

So much for my week off from babysitting!  LOL!!  I fully expected him to need to buy one of these to wear with his blow dart gun!  Oh well, he will either keep me young or turn me grey (er)!

Not Amused

Someone thinks they are funny.  Bobby made this picture of me and posted it to my Facebook wall.  I attempted to take it down but didn't get it removed before my friend, Laura, reposted it to her wall.  Now it will never come down....sigh.  I'm glad they have been entertained by it.  I'm not amused(actually I was, pretty funny stuff)

Still At It

Good thing that was an old box of cereal I was about to throw out or I may have been upset with Frisbee for wasting food!!

The Elves Rock picture was today's mischief...yesterday he was found trying to squeeze between the shelf and the top of the turtle acquarium. He didn't quite make it and was just hanging there. (no pic) This morning when Jayke got up he came in to tell me that Frisbee MUST be stuck because he didn't leave last night! Oops. Frisbee must have been so busy he forgot himself last night! Good thing Jayke went to his friend's house this morning and gave him a chance to leave and get back to play in the cereal!

The picture below was from a couple of nights ago. Apparently the Lego Star Wars guys got fed up with the elf's antics and decided to take matters into their own hands...

So Rotten!

Our ornery elf decided to get a little creative with Jayke's picture last night! I think this may be the one Jayke has liked the most. He looked a little indignant at first then yelled at the elf a little. After that he began to laugh. After a few minutes to contemplate Frisbee's mischief, he then was mostly concerned with whether or not he would "Clean that up!"? I told him that I have to clean up after his elf every night and that seemed to relieve him somewhat. He doesn't mind that his mother has more work to do as long as I remove that marker from his face!

The night before the elf was busy in the cabinets. He made snowmen out of marshmallows. Jayke just wanted to know if he could eat them. I didn't allow it but there were plenty left in the bag for him to snack on when he got home from school which made him happy.

This elf business is becoming quite the chore! Now that he has gotten so creative it is a challenge for him to come up with new and better ideas every night. Thank goodness he saved all this creativity for the days closer to Christmas! If he had started out this way I don't think he would have had enough ideas to make it 25+ days!

Ornery Lil Elf!

Our elf has been busy! Fishing for goldfish and hiding in interesting places!

Looks like someone needs to go to the grocery! I did throw out the expired eggs!

Nemo Loves Tinsel!!

I must say I have been highly disappointed in both my cats lack of cooperation in their Christmas photo shoots this year. Too much movement leads to blurry pictures...I just need them to sit perfectly still with the garlands and different items wrapped strategically around them. Is that so much to ask?

The Halls are Decked

Luna is one happy cat...that I finally got her favorite toy back out! Her eyes lit up and I'm pretty sure she grinned as I pulled the tree out of the box and began to assemble it. She sat quietly and watched as each piece went into the next and the lights were finally lit. As Jayke and I fluffed each branch she circled the perimeter watching with anticipation. As I strung the garland around the tree I think I saw her begin to quiver with excitement. Once the garland was on I gave The Boy the go ahead to hang the ornaments. Luna could stand it no more. She dove into the tree and started batting at every ornament within her reach. Tugging at garland and even making a run for it with one ornament that Jayke made causing The Boy to darn near have a heart attack. We got the water bottle out and by the time the tree was done Luna looked like she had survived a monsoon.

Nemo is not as mesmerized by the glittery tinkling tower of fun as Luna is. He approached with caution and quickly learned that touching the shiny dangling objects caused an unpleasant shower of water to hit him in the face. He does enjoy hiding under Luna's tree and attacking her as she is trying to dismantle it though and I had to remove him from his perch about three quarters of the way up the tree once last night. About three hours after the tree was finished the cats both were curled up asleep...exhausted from their attempts to take down the tree of toys I provided them with. I'm sure visions of shiny balls and fluffy garland danced through their heads! No doubt they were planning their next assault!

Some Things Never Change

Jayke and I went to see Grammy in the hospital Friday. The last few times I have gone to see her she hasn't had much to say so I expected the same thing this time. I was afraid she was going to be in really bad shape too. Boy was I wrong! She was having a breathing treatment when we first got there so she wasn't able to say much but when it was over...someone had opened the flood gates! She talked and talked! She told everyone who came in the room that I have no job, no husband, and need a haircut! It has been a while since I've heard this critique of my life from her so it didn't really bother me this time. It was actually kind of funny to me....I mean, it's all true! Even the haircut part!

She was particularly funny when her poor male nurse came in for the first time. She demanded to know who he was and WHAT HE THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO DO IN THERE! I'm glad these nurses are used to dealing with this. He just laughed and answered all her questions...and believe me, there were a lot! I thought he was going to make it out unscathed but she nailed him in the end...it came out in their conversation that he was married and she immediately asked him, "Do you think that is going to last?" That was my cue to leave because I knew where this conversation was heading. She was about to try to fix this poor man up with me. We had to get while the gettin was good! Fortunately, they were going to take her down for some test so there was a subject change and an exit strategy. I think before I go up this week I will call ahead and make sure all the nurses on duty are female!

On the way home I whipped into a parking lot and had The Boy get out so I could get some pics to play with later. A left over drainage tile was the perfect spot! It's hard to come with interesting subject matter in MUNCIE!
